I also want to discuss the notion of out-competing our peers if our goal is to ascend to the career ladder. Getting promoted depends on many factors, and performance is just one of them. I have seen many times that performance review has let dedicated workers down.

In terms of getting promoted, the communication and relationship between you and your manager/influencers may be more critical than out-competing your peers. Still you have to do a great job, but without good communication, there is nothing much left to save. What are your thought?
