LOL. i had a similar experience when I moved from Australia to the UK. I would smile and say hello to people on the street. No one ever said Hi back, but suspiciously looked at me. I told my Irish friend about it and he looked at me with wild eyes opened “ Do not do it here! People may think you want to sell them something”
