I am not sure where it went wrong. It was a request from the man himself. His comment can influence how people show up in the conversation so I am not sure he should be speaking, but remaining neutral and learning with James. Also, he should have backed him up by encouraging an open conversation. What does that tell their employees? I would definitely ask for a meeting with the CEO and stop doing guess work.
